SWIPE 2026 Drives the Future of Fresh Produce in the U.S.

The third edition of the Southwest International Produce Expo (SWIPE 2026), organized by the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA), strengthened its position as a key meeting point for the U.S. fresh produce industry.

Held January 22–24 in Tucson, Arizona, SWIPE 2026 delivered a comprehensive platform for networking, education, and business, highlighting the region’s critical role in supplying fresh produce to the U.S. market.

High-Level Networking at SWIPE 2026

SWIPE 2026 kicked off with the SWIPE Desert Golf Classic Tournament, co-hosted by FPAA and FPFC. The event served as an early networking opportunity for industry leaders ahead of the official expo opening.

The opening day concluded with the Southwest Social Produce Party at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa, fostering business relationships in a professional yet relaxed setting.

Education, Technology, and Supply Chain Resilience

On Friday, January 23, the event shifted its focus to innovation. Educational panels explored how technology is reshaping the fresh produce supply chain from origin to consumer.

During the “Black Swan Event: Preparing for the Unpredictable” panel, executives from Charlie’s Produce, Associated Wholesale Grocers, Wakefern, and H-E-B stressed that future retail competitiveness will depend on adaptability and emerging technologies.

Additional sessions included:

  • AI in Grocery: Easing Shrink and Other Common Challenges: Retailers examined how AI helps reduce food waste, optimize supply chains, and control rising operational costs.
  • Duties & Tariffs: How Retail is Navigating the Impact of an Unstable Supply Chain: Speakers addressed trade policies under the Trump administration and strategies to protect profitability and consumer loyalty.

A Global and Vibrant Expo Floor

The SWIPE 2026 expo floor featured more than 67 booths, showcasing a strong international presence from Mexico, Peru, Honduras, and other producing countries.

“We have a wide range of importing companies joining the Fresh Produce Association and becoming part of this event,” said Raquel Espinoza, chairwoman of Produce House, in an interview with Abasto Media.

Looking Ahead to SWIPE 2027

Following the success of SWIPE 2026, the industry is already looking ahead. SWIPE 2027 will take place January 14–16, continuing its role as a premier platform for innovation and fresh produce trade in the United States.
