Superior Grocers, First Hispanic Grocery Retailer to Partner with Instacart

Superior Grocers will be the first Hispanic retailer in Southern California to offer same-day delivery service through Instacart to select Los Angeles and Orange County locations.

Richard Wardwell, Chief Operating Officer of Superior Grocers, one of Southern California’s largest independent supermarket chains, said that “we are very pleased as customers in these areas will now be able to order Superior products online and have them delivered right to their door.”

Superior Grocers’ customers can now visit www.instacart.com/superior-grocers or download the Instacart app to fill their virtual carts with all their favorite items — from produce and meat to everyday essentials — and have them delivered straight to their doorstep by Instacart, often in as little as an hour.

“Instacart’s success hinges on our ability to offer customers same-day delivery from the stores they love within their own communities,” said Andrew Nodes, Instacart’s Vice President, Retail Accounts. “We are thrilled to partner with an independently owned brand like Superior Grocers and continue the success we are seeing with local grocers on the Instacart platform.”

Instacart delivery starts at just $5.99 on orders of $35 or more. Instacart Express membership is also available, enabling unlimited, free same-day deliveries on orders over $35. After a free trial period, Instacart Express membership is just $14.99 a month, or $149 a year.

Founded in San Francisco in 2012, Instacart has quickly scaled to over 150 markets nationwide and partnered with retailers across the United States, including popular national chains as well as local, regional grocers.

Superior Grocers in the Center of the Hispanic Community

The independent supermarket chain, based in Santa Fe Springs, has 45 stores in Southern California where most of its customers are Hispanic.

“Our customers are always looking for convenience and added-value, and Superior Grocers is always looking for ways to improve our customers’ shopping experience,” stated Wardwell.

Last August, as part of their efforts to support programs that help its customers, Superior Grocers partnered with the California Department of Motor Vehicles to offer DMV services at 10 of its locations.

DMV Self-Service kiosk terminals are available at Superior Grocers locations in Los Angeles, Lynwood, Cudahy, El Monte, Baldwin Park and other locations.
