El Rancho Supermercado celebrated the grand opening of its first store outside of Texas in Liberal City, Kansas.
The Hispanic supermarket opened its doors at the Southgate Shopping Center at 910 S. Kansas Avenue in Liberal-Kansas.
Guillermo Washington, vice president of operations for Dallas-based Hispanic grocery chain El Rancho Supermercado, said the choice of Liberal to open the company’s first store outside of Texas was not by chance.
“We know there is a huge Hispanic community in Liberal, with many hard-working families. The king of low prices comes to Liberal to facilitate savings for the entire community in addition to accessing thousands of brands as if they were in Mexico – nostalgia plus savings is our secret,” Washington said.
“With the arrival of El Rancho Supermercado in Kansas, the Liberal community now has the lowest prices in the market without sacrificing quality, service, freshness, and variety,” added the vice president of operations.
The store carries a full assortment of more than 28,000 grocery items, with local and private label brands and thousands of Hispanic products. In addition, fresh produce, seafood, a large meat market, deli and buffet area, fantastic bakery, and snack area are among the many departments shoppers will find.
At the inauguration, which was presided over by the executives of El Rancho Supermercado and local Liberal authorities, close to 1,000 people were also present. In addition, the company gave away more than 1,500 backpacks and school supplies to the first customers who entered the new store.
El Rancho Supermercado integrated into the Liberal community by generating more than 130 new jobs and even donated five individual $1,000 scholarships to Seward County Community College before its official opening.
SCCC Development Director Kyle Woodrow appreciated the supermarket’s donation and its interest in helping community members with their academic future.
“We are very grateful for the generous scholarship donation from El Rancho Supermercado,” Woodrow said. “The scholarships will provide an incredible opportunity for someone who might not have otherwise considered college as an option, giving them the chance to continue their education. We are excited to work with the El Rancho team and welcome the support of their community.”
