Vallarta Supermarkets Merced Grand Opening Brings Jobs, Culture

Vallarta Supermarkets Merced marks a major milestone for Central California’s Latino community. The family-owned grocery chain opens its first Merced location on Wednesday, June 10. The ribbon-cutting takes place at 851 W. Olive Ave.

This opening represents the chain’s third new store launch in 2026. It also signals Vallarta’s continued push into underserved Central California markets.

A Grand Opening Built Around Community

The celebration promises far more than a typical store launch. Live entertainment, special giveaways, and signature fresh food tastings warmly welcome Merced residents.

The first 300 customers through the doors receive a free reusable grocery bag filled with groceries. That generous gesture sets the tone for what Vallarta calls its community-first philosophy.

Beyond the giveaways, the chain directs $7,500 in donations toward five local schools and charities. Vallarta distributes those funds as part of its ongoing commitment to the neighborhoods it serves.

“Each new store represents more than just a place to shop,” said Allie Garcia, Vice President of Marketing at Vallarta Supermarkets. “It is a place where families can find fresh, high-quality ingredients that celebrate their culture and traditions.”

Garcia added that investing in the community remains at the heart of everything the company does.

Vallarta Supermarkets Merced Creates 175 New Jobs

The new Merced location delivers significant economic impact to the region. Vallarta creates 175 new job opportunities, ranging from department staff to store leadership roles.

That workforce investment strengthens Merced’s local economy at a meaningful scale. It also positions Vallarta as a major employer within the city’s growing retail corridor.

The 52,000-square-foot store sits within the Marketplace at Merced shopping center. Its size allows Vallarta to house all of its signature departments under one roof.

Fresh, Authentic Offerings Define the Store Experience

Vallarta designs each department to deliver an immersive, culturally rich shopping experience. The Carnicería — branded as the Home of the Original Carne Asada™ — anchors the store’s fresh offerings.

Skilled butchers marinate premium meat cuts in signature spices daily. Nearby, the Cremería showcases traditional cheeses including queso fresco and cotija for discerning shoppers.

The Pescadería and in-house Cevichería provide ocean-fresh seafood, aguachiles, and more. Meanwhile, the Panadería produces hand-decorated cakes and pan dulce fresh every single day.

Warm corn and flour tortillas roll out in-house throughout the day. That commitment to freshness distinguishes Vallarta from conventional grocery competitors in the region.

A Taste of the Sea: Marisquería Costa de Oro Makes Its Return

This Merced store becomes only the second Vallarta location to feature Marisquería Costa de Oro. The concept draws food lovers with made-to-order seafood tacos, fresh ceviches, and coctel de camarón.

Standout menu items include the Burnt Habanero Ahi Tuna tostada. The concept also offers kid-friendly plates, making it a destination for the whole family.

That dining addition elevates the Merced store beyond a traditional supermarket. It transforms the space into a true food hall experience rooted in coastal Mexican cuisine.

La Cocina, Grab-and-Go, and More Keep Shoppers Coming Back

For busy families, La Cocina serves hot, ready-to-eat meals inspired by Mexico and Central America. Shoppers can also grab refrigerated options including tortas de jamón, fresh salads, and signature rice and refried beans.

The made-to-order guacamole station lets customers personalize each scoop to their taste. Aguas frescas flow straight from traditional vitroleros at the in-store Juice Bar.

For something unexpected, hand-rolled sushi and fresh-pressed juices round out the global offerings. Fruit bowls topped with Tajín and chamoy add a playful, local touch throughout the produce section.

The Dulcería closes the loop with candies, piñatas, and celebration essentials. The Florería brightens occasions further with vibrant flower arrangements and potted plants.

A Mural Celebrates Merced’s Identity

Vallarta commissioned local artist Patricia Pratt to create a custom mural for the new store. Her artwork serves as a tribute to Merced’s unique character and its people.

That decision reflects Vallarta’s broader philosophy of embedding itself into each community it enters. Rather than importing a generic retail environment, the chain authentically adapts to local culture.

Delivery Options Bring Vallarta to Every Doorstep

Customers who cannot visit in person can still access Vallarta’s full selection at home. The chain partners with DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart for convenient home delivery.

Fresh produce, La Cocina hot meals, and carnitas tacos all arrive straight to the front door. That digital reach extends Vallarta’s community impact well beyond the store’s physical walls.

With its Merced debut, Vallarta Supermarkets deepens its footprint across California’s Central Valley. The chain continues to demonstrate that authentic culture, fresh food, and community investment drive lasting retail success.
