The Cardenas Markets Foundation Launches the Cardenas CARES Community Giving Program

The Cardenas Markets Foundation is celebrating National Nonprofit Day by launching the Cardenas CARES (Committed, Active, Reliable, Empowering, Supportive) Community Giving Program.

August 17 is celebrated as National Nonprofit Day because it is the date the Tariff Act of 1894 was enacted. This law imposed the first federal corporate income tax, which included exemptions for nonprofit and charitable institutions. With a few modifications, nonprofit exemptions remain a substantial part of the law and have significantly benefited communities and the economy.

The Registrar of National Day Calendar declared National Nonprofit Day to be observed annually in 2017.
