Supermercado Nuestra Familia continued its steady growth as SpartanNash opened its newest location in Topeka, drawing hundreds of eager customers ready to explore the store’s authentic products and personalized services.
The grand opening marked another step in SpartanNash’s effort to strengthen its presence in Hispanic communities and deliver food experiences that reflect local tastes.
Located at 2021 SE 29th Street, the 50,000-square-foot store brings Hispanic flavors and traditions to the Highland Crest, Central Highland Park, Oakland, and southeast Topeka neighborhoods. Shoppers arrived early, formed long lines outside the entrance, and filled the aisles within minutes of the ribbon cutting.
Shoppers Celebrate with Music, Food, and Community Spirit

From the moment the doors opened, the store felt electric. A mariachi band and a local dance group set the tone with live performances, while families enjoyed kid-friendly activities, product sampling, and giveaways.
The crowd kept growing through the morning as customers explored the new aisles, tasted fresh tortillas, and checked out the expanded bakery and deli selections.
During the celebration, the SpartanNash team strengthened its local ties by donating $5,000 to Highland Park High School. The contribution underscored the company’s ongoing support for education and community development.
SpartanNash Highlights Growth of Supermercado Nuestra Familia Banner
Jay Mahabir, Vice President of Retail Operations at SpartanNash, said the Topeka opening reinforces the company’s commitment to serving diverse communities through its Supermercado Nuestra Familia banner.
“Our Supermercado Nuestra Familia banner is an exciting part of our portfolio of nearly 200 retail stores in 11 states, and we’re proud to serve the Topeka community with fresh and authentic food solutions,” Mahabir said. “Whether you’re looking for specific ingredients and flavors or experimenting with new tastes, be sure to visit our newest location to see what’s in store!”
The company will expand further later this month with the opening of a sixth Supermercado Nuestra Familia location in Omaha, Neb., offering a smaller-format store aimed at convenience-driven shoppers.
