A consortium of private investors, led by the current CEO and president of Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), Anthony Hucker, and C&S Wholesale Grocers, announced the acquisition of Southeastern Grocers and its Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets from ALDI U.S. Since March 2024, ALDI U.S. took ownership of Southeastern Grocers.
Anthony Hucker will continue in his role and serve as chair, said the consortium in a press release.
A Strategic Acquisition for Growth
The consortium immediately assumes operational control of approximately 170 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets across Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. The Winn-Dixie acquisition also includes the grocery chain’s liquor store operations.
ALDI’s prior agreement to convert approximately 220 stores to its format will proceed as planned. The multi-year process is expected to conclude by 2027. The remaining locations will continue operating under the Winn-Dixie and Harveys banners.

“Our culture and path forward are firmly grounded in our 100-year legacy—a legacy built on strong values and a shared purpose of caring for one another,” said Hucker. “As we reinvest in the store fleet, we are inspired by listening loudly to the voices of our customers to elevate and revolutionize our store offerings.”
Hucker highlighted that the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets acquisition marks a transformational period for SEG, promising thoughtful, purpose-driven growth.
Strengthening Industry Partnerships
C&S Wholesale Grocers, a longstanding supply chain partner of Southeastern Grocers, sees the acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets as a significant step forward in its growth strategy.
“This consortium continues C&S and SEG’s longstanding partnership,” said Eric Winn, CEO of C&S Wholesale Grocers. “For 20 years, we have worked together to feed our communities. C&S will leverage our best-in-class capabilities to provide value and quality to shoppers as we continue advancing our legacy of braggingly happy customers.”
C&S views the Winn-Dixie acquisition as an opportunity to strengthen its retail presence while supporting SEG’s growth.
Smooth Transition Plans
ALDI and SEG leadership will collaborate closely to ensure a seamless transition, with dedicated leaders managing the conversion and hiring processes.
SEG will continue to operate stores slated for conversion under normal conditions until each location transitions to ALDI’s format.
The acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets solidifies SEG’s commitment to the Southeast market while aligning leadership and ownership for reinvestment and growth.
