Harps Food Stores announced that it has entered into a purchase agreement to acquire Janise’s Supermarket, a grocery store located in Sunset, Louisiana.
The grocery chain based in Springdale stated that both parties expect to complete the transaction by the end of July 2023.
“It is with great honor that we, Janise’s Supermarket, announce the acquisition of our business by Harps Food Stores,” states Michael Dwayne Janise, co-owner of Janise’s Supermarket.
Janise’s Supermarket is an ESOP [Employee Stock Ownership Plan] company that has been a cornerstone of the Sunset community for over 40 years. It is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere, personalized customer service, and diverse selection of products.
Harps said it shares the same values and is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the traditions that have made Janise’s Supermarket a staple in the local community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Janise’s Supermarket into the Harps Food Stores family,” stated Kim Eskew, Chairman and CEO of Harps Food Stores, Inc.
The grocery chain operates 146 stores in six states, including Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Oklahoma. It is also a 100% employee-owned company.
“This acquisition aligns perfectly with our strategic growth plans and allows us to expand our footprint in Louisiana. We are committed to honoring Janise’s Supermarket’s legacy and serving the Sunset community with the same level of excellence they have expected,” Eskew added.
As part of the transaction, Harps Food Stores will retain the existing staff at Janise’s Supermarket, ensuring a smooth transition for both employees and customers.

Harps Food Stores has taken a step towards growth and expansion into new markets by acquiring Janise’s Supermarket.
The grocer, founded by Harvard and Floy Harp in 1930 in Springdale, Arkansas, has grown to become the largest employee-owned company in Arkansas, with a workforce of over 7,200 associates.
