Cardenas Markets Expands to LA and Orange Counties With its First Store in Whittier, CA

Cardenas Markets announced its expansion west of Pomona, California. The Hispanic grocery chain will open its first store in the City of Whittier, in May 2020.

This new store, located at 11750 Whittier Boulevard, marks the beginning of Cardenas Markets’ future expansion plans toward the highly attractive Los Angeles and Orange Counties, which include the best growth opportunities in the country for the Hispanic grocery chain. Currently, most of their Southern California locations are in the Inland Empire.   

“Our aggressive growth plan continues as we expand westward into the city of Whittier. It has been a long time coming, and we are excited about bringing our Keep Life Flavorful design to the largest Hispanic market in the country,” John L. Gomez, CEO of Cardenas Markets, said in a press release.

Cardenas’s expansion plan includes the opening of four stores in Las Vegas, Concord, Victorville, and Tucson, before the end of this year. On November 20th, the Hispanic grocery chain will open its new store in Tucson, Arizona, located at 902 W. Irvington Rd.

The new store in Whittier, California, scheduled to open next Spring, will occupy 34,642 sq. Ft. of a retail site previously occupied by Stater Bros. supermarket, and it will provide 120 new jobs to the local economy.  

“I’m really pleased and delighted they are coming to our city. They will be a great addition to the many grocery stores that serve our community, we’re all looking forward to it,” said Whittier Councilman, Josué Alvarado.

The future Cardenas Markets store will have the Keep Life Flavorful design, consisting in the vibrant colors of the famous Cardenas Produce department, and the meat department offering the Mexican cuts of meat and seafood that made Cardenas famous.

Also, customers will have the opportunity to enjoy the flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine in the fully equipped Mexican Kitchen. It will also have a Coffee Bar and Food-to-Go Buffet alongside other traditional amenities such as the Panadería, with freshly baked bread and pastry products. Besides, the store will offer its Nixtamal Tortillería with an abundance of scratch-made tortilla products. 

Cardenas Markets LLC., based in Ontario, CA., now operates a total of 59 stores, 52 under Cardenas banner and seven stores under the Los Altos Ranch Market banner, in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
