El Gran Chaparral: Mexican Tradition and Quality Crossing Borders

El Gran Chaparral combines tradition and innovation to deliver premium pork skin to international markets.

What began in 1974 as a family venture led by Don Lorenzo Martín and Doña Irma is today a benchmark in the Mexican meat industry. After consolidating its pork production, the company took a strategic step forward in 1995 with the opening of Obrador TIF 217, its processing plant. Since then, El Gran Chaparral has continuously evolved, combining its artisanal roots with a modern processing facility capable of meeting the demands of the international market.

PRESSED PORK RINDS (CHICHARRÓN PRENSADO): EXPORT-QUALITY TRADITION AND SAFETY

Within its meat portfolio, pressed pork rinds (chicharrón prensado) take center stage. Crafted with over three decades of refinement, this product stands out for preserving the authentic texture, juiciness, and flavor demanded by Hispanic consumers.

For El Gran Chaparral, preserving tradition does not compete with technology. Its production process holds TIF, HACCP, and FSSC 22000 certifications, guaranteeing the highest food safety standards, standardization, and batch-to-batch consistency—a crucial factor for supply across retail and foodservice channels.

In the United States, core categories such as chicharrón prensado, lard, and smoked pork chops drive steady growth. For independent supermarkets and grocers, these products deliver a high-value nostalgic appeal that boosts sales volume and customer loyalty.

The company actively works on packaging and shelf-ready formats tailored to the dynamics of the U.S. market.

LONG-TERM STRATEGIC PARTNERS

El Gran Chaparral’s vision centers on building strong partnerships with distributors and retailers. Backed by a steady supply chain, strict compliance, and a brand supported by over 50 years of history, the company continues to expand its footprint and deliver authentic Mexican flavor across the United States.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME

The company’s name stems from a fond family memory: Lorenzo Martín Jr. chose it inspired by The High Chaparral, the iconic television series he loved.

Premiering in 1967 on NBC and created by David Dortort—creator of Bonanza—the show depicted life in the Sonoran Desert. That spontaneous choice grew into the signature identity of a brand now delivering its products and authentic flavors far beyond Mexico.
