C&S Wholesale Grocers announced the opening of the first supermarket Piggly Wiggly in New York state. The official grand opening event of the new store, located at 1330 Washington Street, Watertown, was held on March 3rd.
According to a press release, GU Markets LLC, an affiliate of C&S Wholesale Grocers, will operate this store.
“We are very excited to bring this beloved brand to New York. Piggly Wiggly has been an icon in the supermarket industry since its first store opening in the 1900s,” said Bob Palmer, Chief Executive Officer, C&S Wholesale Grocers. “When we purchased the 12 stores that became available due to the Tops Markets merger with Price Chopper/Market 32, we immediately knew that this location was the right opportunity to enter the Northeast market and showcase why this is a supermarket that creates braggingly happy customers,” added Palmer.
Last July, C&S Wholesale Grocers announced the acquisition of the Wisconsin-based Piggly Wiggly that included 11 Piggly Wiggly Midwest corporate stores and 84 Wisconsin franchisees under the Piggly Wiggly brand.
Since 1911, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, has been the home to Piggly Wiggly Midwest’s headquarters, where it has its corporate offices and two of its distribution centers. A third distribution center is located in Milwaukee.
This unique grocery store offers the selection and assortment of a national chain, with a community-based retailer’s service and local customization. Each store contains specialized local assortments to meet local shoppers’ needs.
