Northgate González Market announced the three student winners of its 4th annual Día de los Muertos Art Contest, “Amor Eterno. ” The contest showcased the top artists from elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Southern California.
The California-based chain of Mexican-themed grocery stores celebrates the distinctive Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos each year with in-store events and offerings that include community altars, traveling student art exhibits, fresh marigolds and seasonal decorations, and its famous authentic pan de muerto at its 42 stores located throughout Southern California.
Día de los Muertos Art Contest Winners
This year’s elementary school winner is Isabella Montes, age 11, from Kipp Sol Academy Middle School in East Los Angeles.
The middle school winner is Julia Lopez, age 14, from Donald S. Jordan Intermediate in Garden Grove.
The winner in the high school category is Angela Fernandez, age 15, from James A. Garfield High School in Los Angeles.
This year’s theme was “Amor Eterno,” which asked the students to show through their art the rich cultural traditions of building an altar (ofrenda) filled with special food and memories of their loved ones.

“The talent and artistry of the students who entered the art contest impressed all of the judges and family at Northgate Gonzalez Market,” said Co-President Miguel González. “We are honored to bring the traditional Mexican holiday to our customers, offering them products and experiences to help them celebrate and remember their loved ones.”
The art contest winners received a Little Partners Deluxe Double-Sided Learn ‘N Play art Center, XPPen Artist Pro 14 Gen 2 Drawing Tablet, Drawing Tablet Sleeve Protective Bag, and a $100 Amazon Gift Card.
Impressing customers throughout Southern California, their artwork has been featured on Northgate Market reusable bags and showcased at various Dia de los Muertos events, including Hollywood Forever.
