Food Industry Celebrates National Supermarket Employee Day

Today, February 22, marks the third year of National Supermarket Employee Day, established by the FMI-the Food Industry Association (FMI) in recognition of the invaluable work performed each day by the nearly three million workers in the more than 40,000 grocery stores in the United States.

Across the country, independent grocers and supermarket chains are honoring their employees with social media posts, donations, and other benefits.

Here are some of the messages submitted by grocers honoring their employees:

Meg Ham, President at Food Lion

Food Lion’s 82,000 associates are the reason why we celebrate Supermarket Associate Day on February 22. They bring our brand, strategy, and culture to life by delivering fresh food at affordable prices. We know customers can buy groceries anywhere and that the care shown to customers matters.

Food Lion, Supermarket Employee Day

Every day across our 10-state footprint, our associates share a smile, walk customers to an item, or escort them to their car under a ‘Count on me’ umbrella during inclement weather.

To honor our associates on Supermarket Associate Day, Food Lion Feeds donated 350,000 meals to Feeding America. A total of 1 million meals have been contributed on our associates’ behalf since 2021 to show appreciation for the countless caring ways they help customers nourish their families. These donations help Feeding America provide food to neighbors in need so no one has to choose between dinner and rent or gas and groceries.

I’m grateful to each and every one of our 82,000 associates who create a place of belonging for our customers. Thank you for all you do for Food Lion!
