Companies Support Victims of California Wildfires

Several prominent companies are supporting the impacted communities in the face of the devastating wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area. Goya Foods, a leading Hispanic-owned food company, offers relief efforts by donating truckloads of essential food supplies. Meanwhile, Northgate González Market has launched a community-driven fundraising campaign, “Unidos Por Nuestra Comunidad,” encouraging customers to round up their purchases to support wildfire victims, with the company matching all donations up to $100,000. The Kroger Family of Companies, including Ralphs and Food4Less stores, has also pledged a significant contribution, aiming to raise $1 million for those affected by this disaster. These collective efforts demonstrate a strong commitment from the business community to aid those in need during this challenging time.

Goya Foods donates truckloads of essential food

Goya Foods, America’s largest Hispanic-owned food company with a facility in Los Angeles, has stepped in as a first responder, donating truckloads filled with thousands of pounds of essential food products to support families and individuals impacted by this disaster.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to our fellow neighbors who have lost so much. This historic devastation hits home because it is Goya’s home too, and it is vital that we come together to support our communities,” said Bob Unanue, President and CEO of Goya Foods. “We are grateful for the opportunity to assist our neighbors in Los Angeles and contribute to local relief efforts during this challenging time. Our commitment to providing food, support, and hope will be on-going.”

As wildfires continue to threaten homes and communities throughout the region, Goya Foods has been offering immediate relief to those in need and has collaborated with local non-profits and emergency response teams to ensure that food reaches those who need it most. With the help of Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), Bracken’s Kitchen, and St. Philip’s Parish in Pasadena, Goya has mobilized its resources to distribute nutritious meals and pantry staples, including rice, beans, canned goods, and ready-to-eat meals, to local shelters and relief organizations.

“The Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) is honored to have partners such as Goya who work with us side by side when disaster strikes. The generous donation of food will be placed in family necessity kits and delivered to families in Altadena and surrounding areas. If it weren’t for the generous support of these smart partnerships, GEM wouldn’t be poised to provide as much aid as we currently do,” stated Emily Fullmer, Chief Operations Officer of GEM.

Northgate González Market Launches Fundraising Campaign “Unidos Por Nuestra Comunidad”

Northgate González Market is taking action to support Latino wildfire victims through a community-driven fundraising campaign, “Unidos Por Nuestra Comunidad” (Together for Our Community). Running from Thursday, Jan. 16, to Friday, Jan. 31, customers at all 44 Southern California stores can round up their purchases to donate, with Northgate matching all contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000.

Northgate Gonzalez Market, California’s premier Mexican-themed grocery chain, steps into action to help LA wildfire victims.

“We are heartbroken by the devastation these wildfires have caused, particularly among Latino families,” said Co-President Miguel González. “Our mission has always been to stand with our neighbors, and now is the time to come together and help them recover.”

Latinos, who make up nearly half of Los Angeles County’s population, are among the hardest hit by the fires. Many affected are workers such as gardeners, housekeepers, and restaurant staff, who often lack access to essential resources or federal disaster aid. To ensure assistance reaches those most in need, Northgate Market is partnering with the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and Alma Family Services.

“Northgate Market’s pledge to match up to $100,000 is a powerful example of community leadership,” said Diego Rodriguez, Executive Vice President/COO of Alma Family Services.

In addition to the fundraising campaign, Northgate has donated hot meals, groceries, hygiene kits, and water to local shelters, working alongside Los Angeles County Supervisors.

“Disasters don’t discriminate, but those most vulnerable—low-income families and undocumented workers—are often the ones who struggle the most to access necessities like food, water, and shelter,” said Anabella Bastida, Director of Membership Services at CHIRLA. “Northgate’s generosity brings hope and tangible aid to families who have lost so much in the wildfires.”

Together with its customers and nonprofit partners, Northgate González Market is uniting to bring relief and recovery to Latino families impacted by the wildfires.

Kroger Pleds $1M to Support Families Impacted by Southern California Wildfires

The Kroger Family of Companies, including southern California’s Ralphs and Food4Less stores, today announced a commitment to raise $1 million for families impacted by the devastating wildfires impacting the Los Angeles region.

“We strive to fulfill our purpose, to Feed the Human Spirit, every day, and especially when disaster strikes,” said Rodney McMullen, Chairman and CEO of Kroger. “Our associates are always among the first to support our communities during natural disasters, and the situation in southern California is no different. I’m so proud of how quickly our teams have worked to reopen stores that were temporarily closed during the unfolding wildfire situation to ensure we’re a resource for customers who need fresh food, pantry staples and necessities like water and ice. Our hearts are with everyone who is impacted by this tragedy – especially our team of associates and their extended families – and we are grateful to the first responders working so hard to protect our communities.”

The Kroger Family of Companies is raising $1 million to support disaster relief and recovery, including $500,000 in company matching funds for donations from customers to benefit the American Red Cross and local Feeding America-affiliated food banks.

Kroger is making it easy for customers in several divisions to support relief efforts by providing an option to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar at checkout to benefit the Red Cross. Customers are also invited to donate online if their stores do not provide an option at checkout.

In addition to funds, Kroger is delivering food, water and supplies to local fire departments and evacuation centers. With the fires still raging, Ralphs and Food4Less will continue to work with law enforcement, emergency responders and our community partners to provide additional aid without disrupting their fire containment efforts.

To support the California National Guard being deployed to aid in disaster relief, the United Service Organizations (USO) is sending a Kroger + USO Mobile Canteen to Los Alamitos, CA, to feed and support military first responders. Kroger is providing gift cards to the USO to help provide needed food, water and supplies for the Mobile Canteen.
