Sedano’s Supermarkets Celebrates 60 Years of Service to the Hispanic Community and its Culture

When people think about Miami, they think about warm weather, cheerful music, and delicious food. At the core of all of this is Hispanic culture. Established by the Guerra and Herrán families in 1962, Sedano’s Supermarkets have become part of Miami’s DNA for understanding South Florida’s unique blend of Latin cultures.

The grocer is celebrating its 60th anniversary and, to that end, announced that it will have promotional events and special prices throughout the year.

“We’re very grateful to our longtime employees and loyal customers for allowing Sedano’s to be part of their friends and families for the past 60 years,” said Javier Herrán, chief marketing officer at Sedano’s Supermarkets. “We take pride in being a cultural hub to our local community and feel proud to bring our customers quality foods at the best prices while always keeping in mind the flavors of their homelands and culture.”

Since opening its first store in Hialeah in 1962, Sedano’s has been making the grocery shopping experience affordable, attainable, and nostalgic by giving immigrants a sense of community away from home.

Each location has allowed Hispanics in South Florida to shop for a unique selection of groceries, part of Latin America’s authentic cuisine, at the best price points in one place, the company said in a press release.

Beyond being the go-to grocer for most Hispanics in Florida, Sedano’s employees have created a family within their workplace and enjoy helping Hispanics find all the foods they miss from their home countries.

“Bringing our customers a bit of their country of origin and traditions to their kitchen was the vision of our founders. I am proud to follow their legacy and to be part of the Sedano’s family for the last 39 years,” said Pedro Mesa, director of community affairs at Sedano’s Supermarkets.

Like Pedro, there are many other employees who have been working at Sedano’s for years, a true testament to the company’s character.

Giving back to the community is also part of Sedano’s legacy, so to commemorate 60 years in business, the supermarket hosted Sedano’s Kitchen at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair in March, where small local food businesses had the chance to promote and sell their products.

Sedano’s will also continue celebrating its annual “Season of Giving” during the holidays, which is near and dear to the supermarket’s culture.
