Hannaford Supermarkets took significant steps to enhance the shopping experience of its customers in the first half of 2023. This included the opening of a brand-new store in the eastern region, as well as upgrading six of its existing stores.
In May, the grocer opened its 186th store in Blue Hill, Maine, which was the highlight of the first half of the year. The new store boasts a wide range of premium, fresh food options, and a full-service pharmacy, providing customers with a smooth and hassle-free shopping experience.
From March to June 2023, Hannaford completed six store remodels in Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont, in addition to the grand opening of Blue Hill. The upgrades focused on improving customers’ convenience by adding 24 self-checkout registers and installing five private pharmacy consultation rooms.

Hannaford Supermarkets is based in Scarborough, Maine, and operates 186 stores located in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The supermarket chain employs nearly 30,000 associates.
The following stores marked the completion of their remodels during the first half of 2023:
- Derry Hannaford in Derry, N.H., now features an increased assortment of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables and new drink options, such as kombucha, juices, and smoothies.
- Lunenburg Hannaford in Lunenburg, Mass., has added a full-service pharmacy that offers a private room for immunizations and consultations with pharmacists.
- Leominster Hannaford in Leominster, Mass., which now features a larger produce section, meat department, and seafood department, has added four additional self-checkout registers.
- Dorset Street Hannaford in South Burlington, Vt., which now features more local producers and soy and vegan products throughout the store.
- Uxbridge Hannaford in Uxbridge, Mass., now offers an expanded deli department featuring a new array of fine cheeses and an extensive range of grab-and-go meal options.
- Winthrop Hannaford in Winthrop, Maine, which has doubled the size of its produce section, now offering a greater selection of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Hannaford’s community commitment is being recognized through donations to local non-profits. $27,000 has been given to support access to food, youth development, and healthier living initiatives.
