Greg Finchum Named President of Food Lion

Ahold Delhaize USA announced that Food Lion executive Greg Finchum will succeed Meg Ham as president of the grocery retailer in May 2025.

The announcement follows Ham’s decision to retire, ending her tenure as president of the omnichannel grocery brand. Finchum, currently executive vice president of retail operations, brings decades of experience and a proven record of delivering strong financial performance and sales growth.

Finchum’s Career at Food Lion

Finchum joined Food Lion in 1989 and has held numerous leadership roles, including head of strategy and head of retail services. For over a decade, he has served as retail operations executive vice president.

The company credits Finchum with driving Food Lion’s strategic repositioning and fostering customer brand loyalty. His leadership has strengthened emotional connections between associates and the brand while maintaining the company’s heritage.

“Greg is a talented retail operator at heart,” said JJ Fleeman, CEO of Ahold Delhaize USA. “He leads with strategic discipline and focus, consistently delivering results and solid performance at Food Lion.”

Vision for Grocer’s Future

Finchum expressed gratitude for Ham and Fleeman’s mentorship and for the opportunity to continue advancing Food Lion’s legacy.

“I’m humbled to take on this new position in May,” Finchum said. “We will continue to nourish the communities we serve while maintaining convenient locations that provide affordable groceries and excellent service at more than 1,100 stores.”

He emphasized its commitment to supporting customers through its 82,000 associates across Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.

Food Lion’s Leadership Transition

Ham, who has led the food retailer since 2014, leaves behind a robust legacy of growth and innovation. Under her leadership, the brand strengthened its omnichannel operations and expanded its footprint in 10 states.

Fleeman praised Ham for her contributions and highlighted the seamless transition Finchum’s appointment ensures. “Greg’s depth of experience and knowledge of Food Lion will serve him well in this new role,” he said.

Based in Salisbury, North Carolina, the company operates over 1,100 stores in ten states. It prioritizes community engagement, affordable groceries, and exceptional service, solidifying its position as a trusted neighborhood grocer.
