With 2020 just around the corner, what better way to start the New Year than with a fresh outlook on life. Losing weight is among the most popular New Year’s Resolutions.
However, promising to lose those extra pounds should not be the goal of your resolution. The aim should be adopting a new lifestyle, for you and your family.
Your New Year’s resolution should focus on a change that will make you feel better, improve your daily life with and end result if you being healthier.
Most resolutions involve inspiration which is why the following tips are actionable to make sure your resolution is executed.
Tips to achieving your New Year’s Resolution
Cook at home at least 4 out of 7 days of the week. Use fresh, good quality ingredients. Don’t forget the vegetables. The kitchen should be a place to keep the family together. Avoid social media when eating with your family.
Exercise 3-4 times per week. If your weekdays tend to be busy, pick one day of the week and do weekends. Try doing activities that require physical exercise such as sports, outdoor events or even dancing classes.
Limit the days of rice and beans. The idea is to keep a balance, not say goodbye to these foods. Prepare rice only once a week and add beans to salads and soups.
Avoid everything processed. Sometimes the accumulated pounds come from diets high on salts and preservatives. Avoid canned foods, unless it is organic. No fast-food restaurants or commercial chains. We can only control what we eat at home.
Instead of mashed potatoes or bananas prepare mashed cauliflower or carrots. If you make mashed potatoes, use the sweet potatoes. Use low-fat milk or olive oil. Add green peas, broccoli or carrots to bring a crunchy texture to the mash potatoes. This will make it look and taste more delicious.
Instead of pasta, buy a spiralizer to vegetable noodles or pasta. It takes only 3 minutes to cut them and 3 minutes to cook them in a pan with olive oil, salt, pepper and if you want, you can add some garlic. Add your favorite flavoring sauce and the protein and you will be set.
Brussels sprouts promise to remain popular in 2020. We already know that roasted Brussel sprouts are delicious but you can also grate them to turn them into a salad.
Less meat more fish. Salmon is one of the best alternatives to meat and the easiest to cook. Choose wild salmon over other kinds. Season with salt and pepper and cook over medium-high heat with half a lemon on the side. Once the salmon is cooked, squeeze the lemon on the salmon.
Oatmeal and oat milk. These two foods will remain a trend in “2020”. Use these ingredients to cook most of your recipes. Buy them without sugar. If they are organic, it’s better.
Desserts and bread, eat them once as a reward each month. Sodas, leave them in the past. Processed juices, get them out of your life forever and prepare homemade fruit/vegetable juices instead.
If you don’t own a juicer or blender yet, ask Santa for one. A good olive oil, avocado, and water is a good recipe to try throughout the year.
I wish you a tasty 2020 full of energy and a good life.
